Master Gardeners in Your Community

Washington County Master Gardeners are gearing up for another great season of working and teaching in your communities. Here are some of the places you’ll find us!

• Bayport Library – MG’s design and maintain the entryway garden.

• Community Thread Front Entry Garden – MG’s maintain both the front entry garden and rain garden.

• Courage Kenny – Supporting horticulture therapy programs as well as rejuvenating existing gardens.

• Granite House Sensory Garden – Work with residents to plant and maintain sensory gardens.

• Habitat For Humanity – June 9th. Working with homeowners to plant new landscapes for Habitat homes.

• Langton Place Presbyterian Home Healing Garden – Plant and maintain a wheelchair healing garden.

• Scandia Elementary Gardens – Assist groups of children in the planting and supervision in their 3 gardens.

• Washington County in Bloom – A program that encourages homeowners and businesses to create beautiful front entry gardens. Join our workshop on April 7 (see calendar for details).

• Arbor Glen Senior Living – Lead discussions on various garden topics with senior residents.

• Arboretum Yard and Garden Line – MG’s answer your gardening questions.

• Community Education Classes – MG’s teach classes on gardening topics and issues of current interest, using research based information. (Check out our calendar for classes!)

• Como Blooming Butterfly Gardens Exhibit – A joint collaboration with Ramsey County to educate the public on nectar and host plants for butterflies. June 16-Sept.2

• Farmer’s Markets – MG’s available at the markets in Mahtomedi, Cottage Grove, Forest Lake and Woodbury to answer your gardening questions. (watch calendar for summer dates).

• Monarchs and Milkweed – Our M&M’s can be found all over Washington County, promoting Monarch conservation through workshops and demonstrations.

• Oakdale Events – Assist with reforestation at Oakfield Park (May 5); give away over 200 trees and seedlings on Arbor Day (April 28); Buckthorn removal and control; Discovery Center Speaker Series on Saturdays; seed starting with children in collaboration with the city of Oakdale; assist with Girl Scout Badge projects; work with the Oakdale Garden Club towards community beautification; assist with the Oakdale Community Garden.

• Speakers Bureau – Give our bureau a call to set up a presentation on a variety of subjects to your local garden club, church group, etc.

• State Fair – We serve with MG’s from across the state to answer questions from the public. August 23-Sept. 3rd

•  Valley Creek Mall in Woodbury – Come visit our Ask a Master Gardener table.

• WashingtonConservation District/Ramsey Washington Metro Watershed District Projects – A collaboration on twelve projects and activities involving interaction and instruction with the public on topics related to water quality, invasive species, landscaping for wildlife, rain gardens, shore line and prairie restoration.

• Woodbury Community Expo – MG booth to answer your gardening questions. April 7, East Ridge High School.

• Learn and Grow with us Garden Tour – In the planning stage for 2019. Stay tuned!

• Mahtomedi Garden Tour – June 24th in Mahtomedi and surrounding areas. This garden tour supports gardening education and community beautification projects.

• Demonstration and Education Garden at the Washington County Fairgrounds – Visit anytime to watch the garden grow. Master Gardeners at work on Tuesday evenings who are happy to answer your gardening questions.

• Washington County Rain Gardens – A joint project with the Watershed Conservation District, this garden is also located at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

• Carpenter Nature Centers – MG’s maintain this education garden for school children to visit and learn. April – October.

• RCS Giving Garden – Children and service project volunteers work with our MG’s to plant and maintain this vegetable garden which donates around 2500 pounds of produce for Valley Outreach.

• Junior MG – This International Youth Gardening Program is offered at Lake Elmo Elementary in partnership with Stillwater Schools Community Education. Thursdays, April 26-May 24.

• Garden Market Fundraiser – November 3rd at the Bayport Library.

• Plant Sale – June 3rd at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Lake Elmo. Includes a free diagnostic clinic.
